Malocclusion can be observed as early as the age of 6-7 years. It is extremely important to start treatment early, as untreated malocclusion can lead to the development of speech defects, insufficient oxygenation, snoring, caries, periodontal disease or chewing problems. In order to eliminate the defect, the child is fitted with orthodontic braces to achieve a correct bite.

Mobile braces

Removable braces are used in the early treatment of malocclusion, i.e. in children aged 7-10 years. Such braces should be worn by the child for at least 12-14 per day. The effects of wearing removable braces are visible as soon as two months after starting treatment.
However, it is important that the child follows the recommendations that the paediatric orthodontist has set out. This can sometimes be difficult, as the child often complains about lack of comfort, difficulty speaking or a strange appearance. It is worth noting that braces for young children are available in a variety of colours and designs that may convince the child to wear them. However, parents play a key role in the whole treatment process. It is important that they talk to their children about the benefits of orthodontic treatment. Reward systems for the conscientious wearing of braces are also an effective way.

Fixed appliance

For adolescents aged 12-16 years, fixed orthodontic appliances have become the norm. This is due to the presence of permanent teeth and the greater mental maturity of this group of patients. It should be emphasised that proper oral hygiene is particularly important in those who wear this type of orthodontic appliance.
It is also worth noting that it is often the children themselves who convince their parents to visit the orthodontist and have braces fitted. Especially when they are not satisfied with the state of their teeth and want it corrected. At this age, young people are already aware of the benefits of wearing braces, i.e. a beautiful and healthy smile. Fixed braces are most commonly worn from 1 to 2.5 years.

Wady zgryzu to jedno z najczęściej występujących zaburzeń u dzieci w wieku szkolnym.
